In 2015, I was invited by Red Bull Station to curate the launch of the Basement, a residency programme for artists, designers and coders to occupy the new fab lab of the space. Considering the location, Praça da Bandeira, right in the city centre, the theme of urban experience came to be as an urgency to be explored. There was a festival that focused on how technology could be used in the process of creating collaborative systems to empower citizens in the processes of city making. Amongst the activities, the workshop “Hackable City” with Martijn de Waal (Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences). Participants worked in small interdisciplinary groups that created different mappings of the local area. Then, they develop ideas and prototypes that addressed the issues presented in those mappings. The design lab was mediated by Baixo Ribeiro, Laura Sobral, Marcus Bastos and Bruno Carvalho. The programme also included the hacklabs and experimental labs meeting, “Links Abertos” exhibition in collaboration with The New Institute – Rotterdam, FACT – Liverpool,  and Art Center Nabi – Seoul, Café Reparo, Laboratório Agri.cultura, performances, bike hack workshop, São Paulo centre bike tour and a final panel about public space with  Fernando de Mello Franco (Secretaria Municipal Desenvolvimento Urbano São Paulo), Martijn de Waal (Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences), Marcus Bastos (ECA-USP and PUC-SP), Baixo Ribeiro (Instituto Choque Cultural), José Bueno (co-creator of Rios e Ruas) e Laura Sobral (co-creator of A Batata Precisa de Você). The panel was mediated by Gisela Domschke.
